Dr. Afiya Oni Burson
Dr. Afiya Oni Burson is a licensed professional counselor, counselor educator, and clinical leader with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has over a decade of experience in mental health, clinical supervision, and higher education. As a Clinical Director, Dr. Burson has led innovative programs supporting adults with severe mental health disorders, focusing on holistic care, curriculum design, and integrated service delivery. She also serves as an online faculty member at Grand Canyon University, mentoring doctoral students and teaching graduate-level courses in counseling ethics, group counseling, and couples and family therapy.
Dr. Burson’s research centers on counselor wellness, diversity in counselor education, and fostering community among African American counselor educators. She has presented at national and regional conferences and co-authored peer-reviewed publications on minority representation and community building in academia. Her work reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based practice, professional advocacy, and mentorship, aiming to advance equity and inclusion in the counseling field.
